Week 11 - Shadows

Side-lighting and shadows are married, in my mind.  You can't have one without the other.   Down below, Grumpy Gannon, is demonstrating this for you.  Even his chin dimple has a shadow.

It makes my heart go pitter-pat when I come upon a scene like this.  I love it when my boys nicely play together.

I'm not sure where my Dad keeps finding all these skulls, but I like the contrast of light and dark and the lichen that seems to be covering the old bones.

Week 10 - Side Lighting

We've been working on side-lighting this week.  Here are a few of my attempts...

I can't decide if this picture with his one eye showing is kind of cool or kind of creepy. :)

And here is my Dad's beautiful horse, Knight.  Gorgeous side lighting!

Week 9 - Black and White

It's been awhile since I shot specifically with black and white in mind.  But this week, I was determined to try to get some pictures without faces.  This is definitely an area that I need to improve in and so I  took a whole slew of pictures of inanimate objects, most of which I deleted immediately after viewing because they were terrible.  I spared a few images from my deleting frenzy and I was grateful to find that my bland pictures became much more interesting when converted to black and white.

I posted this guitar picture a few weeks ago, but wanted to see what it looked like in black and white.  I think I like it better this way.

Here's my Dad's black and white.  Look at the texture of the fur and hay and I love the high contrast of the cow's face.

Week 8 - Red

In honor of Valentine's Day, this week's theme is red.  My Dad's first response was, "It doesn't have to be all lovey-dovey, does it?"  I told him not to panic, it could be whatever his little heart desired.

Here is my little Valentine...

 Pucker up, Valentine.

Here's my Dad's photo for the week.  I love the richness of  red on this chicken's comb.  You can even see the catchlights in her eye.  You get double points, Dad!

Week 7 - Catchlights

We are only at week 7 and my boys are already tired of me photographing their every move.  Being the giver that I am, I decided to give them a break this week and instead recruited a few of my friend's children as guinea pigs.  And what an adorable bunch of guinea pigs they are! These cute sisters sat so patiently while I turned them "a little bit this way and a little bit that way", to try and catch the light just right.

I was lucky to be able to babysit this angel baby last week.

And my sweet, dependable Finley.  When all else fails, I know I can snap a few pictures of him and he won't mind.

My Dad was able to capture incredible detail reflected in his horse's eye. Awesome catchlight!
